After years of thinking, tweaking and procrastinating, theclapperboard.com is delighted to formally introduce the free online learning course - Screenwriting Fundamentals.
Screenwriting Fundamentals is one of the first websites to apply concepts of social learning to film making. The underlying principle allows people to learn screenwriting in a community setting where they can improve their screenwriting skills through interaction with others.
This course covers the fundamental aspects of screenwriting: from nurturing initial ideas, developing plots and characters, creating dialogue and polishing the final script ready for shooting. To get the most from this course you are encouraged to work through the assignments that follow each lesson. These have been designed to gain a better understanding of a particular area by studying how it applies to one of your favourite films. So by working through these assignments, you have a valid excuse to watch some of your favourite films again and again! By submitting your findings for each of these assignments, we will build up a solid body of knowledge on film making techniques for everyone to use.
Members on the site are encouraged to discuss assignments posted by others, so we hope to grow a site for collectively learning about film making. Work started on a lesson about characters in film, but that has grown to become a whole series on its own, which will be added in the next few weeks. A similar course related to film lighting is already in development.
